The neighborhood that Matilda's family lives in is one where every house looks practically the same. I kind of picture Privett Drive from Harry Potter or the neighborhood from Edward Scissorhands.
I like the idea of this movie being set in sort of a out of time alternate universe where technology is sort of anachronistic and retro/new at the same time. The living room of the house would be very based on classic middle class mid 20th century decorations, kind of tacky and overbearing like they just took whatever was popular out of the magazines.
